Rebecca: Hi, it’s Medicare, we care, and we are wanting to talk to you today about something fun, some of the perks and advantages to retirement. So we were going to go over some of that with you.
Jimmy: Yeah. Well, one of the things that a lot of people this year, they’re wanting to be outdoors. You’ve got COVID that’s happening so you can’t get outside or you can’t go places. You can go outside and do camping, or you can’t go to national parks. And that’s one of the things. At national parks, once you’re 62 or older, if you’re 65, you’re on Medicare, this applies to you, you can now go visit the national parks and it’s $20 for an annual pass or $80 for a lifetime pass. That’s to go to any national park you want to. That’s a phenomenal thing. So get outside, go do some camping, some hiking in the national parks.
Another thing is you can get discounts off of campsites. So if you’re going to be out there camping, and you’re 65, you still have that option to you. Or if you’re going to be out, do some hunting, you can do some fishing, many of the states don’t require you to have a hunting and fishing license anymore. And again, some of the states differ from one another, and then some of them still require. Depending on what you’re hunting and what you’re fishing, you may still be required to have a license for this particular fish or that particular animal.
So just look that up, but just know, get outside, go do some stuff because there’s a lot of advantages of being retired and being 65 or older.
Rebecca: And then there’s the one thing about going out to eat. A lot of people are already familiar when you’re 55 or older, that you could get maybe a 10% to 15% discount, but don’t be afraid to ask. Make sure that you do. And also, another fun one is some airlines, some hotels, movie theaters, theme parks, these also can offer some discounts, even retail stores. But again, if you don’t ask, you might not know. So, hope that helps.
Jimmy: And what a lot of people like to do is call in advance. Just ask them. Ask if you’re not familiar if a certain restaurant does or a theme park or something like that. If they’re going to give a discount or even an airline, just call in advance. That way, it’s not the awkward moment of, “Do you guys give a discount for being a senior, being retired, those types of things?” Call in advance, find out which ones do, or go online and check it out.
Again, bless you guys. Enjoy your retirement. These are the golden years they say, so go make them gold.
