Medicare, We Care. Alright, so here’s the topic today: Don’t get stuck in last year’s Medicare plan. What does that mean? Here’s what it means. Medicare allows you on October 15th through December 7th every year to make adjustments or to make changes to a plan that you want to go into for the coming year. Unfortunately, there’s people out there that think, “You know what? My plan was great this year. Why do I need to change? I’m just going to stay with it.”

And here’s what happens. Their plans sometimes, the premiums can raise, the pharmacies they want to use can change, the doctors they want you to use can change. There’s all these different factors in there, and they get stuck with the plan because they didn’t make any changes. Then come next year, they find out, “Oh, I didn’t realize this was what happened to my plan.”

Or, I also have clients. Here’s a situation. I had a client once who had a plan, had a $5,000 max out of pocket. He ended up having cancer and needed to have treatment. He calls me and he says, “Jimmy, I need to get off this plan.” And so I asked him the health questions, come to find out he didn’t qualify to get off that plan. He wanted to go to a supplemental plan. He was on an advantage plan at the time. Well, because of his health, he wasn’t allowed to do that. So he ended up having to go for a second round of treatment that coming year. So he got hit with the $5,000 max out of pocket one year, $5,000 out of pocket a year after that, all because he wasn’t able to switch plans due to his health.

These are situations that reviewing, understanding what your insurance covers so that you’re not stuck in a situation like that, where your prescriptions aren’t going to be covered, or your plan is going to increase in premiums, or you can’t get the coverage you need. You need to do something about this, and the time is now – October 15th through December 7th.
